I recently picked up a Michell Garcia 600a reel at a yardsale very cheap. just interested if anyone knows if this is a decent reel for inshore fishing. Dont know much about it other than its in very good shape and was on a boat pole with a wooden handle from the 60's or 70's. anybody have the specs or value? Thanks

If its working, its fine. Similar to Penn Squider IMO. For fluking, bassing, etc.... will be fine.
If you wanted to take it a step further, you can place after market carbontex drag in it for maybe $15. Will increase the drag rating, assure you will not have any issues. Its one of those old work horse reels. Sounds like you did well. ![]() Value, I would say depending on the condition, $40-$60 on Ebay. Would all depend on who is buying it. With the internet, you have the chance of finding somebody who WANTS that reel. In which case, it would be worth more.

Unless it's miiiiint it's only worth a few bucks. I picked one up also with a bunch of reels. Have it mounted on an old wooden rod. I've only seen one other guy using one on a party boat.

I got one Sunday . It also was on an old rod . They are not Penn's or Ocean Citys . I fried 2 of them when I was young . One on a Longfin (my first) and the other on a Guitar Shark in the Surf . I caught both fish but the reels were shot . I have sold a few and there is a small following amungst collectors . The last 2 I had I sold the pair for $30.00.

I have an old white Garcia / Mitchell # 622 that a friend gave me last year.
Have used it a couple times in the Ambrose, on an old medium action boat rod. It's a very slow retrieve & the drag started slipping last time I used it last Fall. Anyone know where I can get it fixed and is it worth it to do so ? Cosmetically it's an 8 out of 10. I kinda like it as a spare reel if only it worked better. Thanks for any help. |
