3-29 Report
Well, the wind blew from the NW, we did catch some nice stripers up to 18LBS today, and a Cod, but, not the hot fishing I was hoping for. When we arrived on the grounds we had some nice readings of bass on the scope, for most of the day, but, never had a hot bite. On one drift we did have 4 hooked up at once (for the small group we had aboard) but most of the time it was just one here and there. The first few stripers were caught on a large, white Jersey Jay Croc, with silver prism. The next few were caught on A-47’s with a green tail. One on a large bucktail, and one on a Mega-bait. The rest were caught on either jigs or crocs. Today you just had to stay at the rail and keep working your lure. Sometimes the fish were within 20’ of the bottom and others just 20’ to 40’ down. The pool winner was: Jorge Batista from Newark, NJ with an 18LB striped bass. We wound up with 15 keepers and a half dozen just under 28”. The biggest surprise was a cod caught on a jig just 2.5 miles from the beach. It was an A-47 & an A-27 with green tails, tied together, on the end of the line. The weather looks good for tomorrow. The Jamaica will sail at 7:30AM. We will sail everyday during Easter week at 7:30AM. Check out the schedule page on our website for information. Or call 732-528-5014. www.bigjamaica.com

The only problem yesterday is that the drift was a little too fast for the nokia to reach the bottom. (Maybe two together)

I saw him reel up when we were making a move and I asked the mate if he was using a green tube as an assist hook, or were there two jigs. There were two jigs and they were both tied at the end of the line. He must have tied one jig to the other. When he caught the cod the mate told me there were two jigs on, when he dropped it to the bottom, but, only one came up. Maybe he had a double header and one broke off? BTW: that is not a rig I would normally recommend. But I learned a long time ago to "never say never".
