Default Tile Fish

When is the best time to tile fish and what type of rig do you use. I've Never tile fished before before and would like to try it. I have a 450 gram cape cod black hole rod with a jigging master pe-8 reel. I'm hoping this is the perfect set up what do ya think?

The reel is perfect. Rod is ok. If you are on a pb you definately want ant a longer rod. For private boat and circle hooks it will work.

Rigs for Tile the only ones I have ever been asked to tie were Hi/Lo Rigs.

Are you fishing a party boat or a private/charter boat? In my opinion the rod is too short for a party boat and possibly too stiff for a private/charter boat. I say this because you need ideal conditions to tilefish and when you have those conditions on a smaller boat you won't need the heavier (32oz and up) sinkers like you would on a party boat. The reel will work well. What size braid is it filled with? I fish 50lb braid on my reels with great success. As for rigs, you are welcome to call me, visit my website, or stop down to my shop. I design, test, and fish all of the rigs we sell.

As Tropics mentioned, 80LB Leader line, High and Lo rigs, 8/0-9/0 Octopus Circle Hooks with Squid Skirts. I think, the best time is in the summer time. For a rod, I agree with everyone here. I used a 7' Cod rod, it worked, but an 8' would of been much better. I was fishing a party boat. I don't do much Tilefishing, maybe once a year. I'm fine with my rod it held up with 40 ounces with no problem. Good luck!

There is no best time, conditions are similar on the boat year round.

Reason its difficult to get out this time of the year is the conditions and windows are small

I had quite a few on a trip a week or two ago.

I'm unsure if I'm fishing a party or private boat, Think I'm gonna recruit Rich from Jersey hooker. I have it spooled with 100 lb hollow Jerry Brown and I'll stop in next time I'm in the area. What type of rod do you recommend?
