Default Freshwater Spinning Gear

Hey guys I am getting into the freshwater thing and found a great group of guys to fish with but I need some gear. I have crappie / trout rods but I need something a little bigger. I am a Shimano guy for my saltwater gear but pretty clueless when it comes to fresh. Any suggestions?

All depends on how much money you want to spend. I buy almost all Shimano spinning reels. Even the lower-end Shimano's are pretty reliable and will last a lifetime with the proper care. As far as rods, I buy mostly Loomis and St. Croix, but there are definitely some solid sticks that you can get out there for less money. Hope that helps.

Careful with the Loomis freshwater rods, they have a VERY HIGH graphite content and they snap like twigs.

Any $60.00 Diawa and a Conolon Premier rod (Wal-Mart) 40 bux

Shimano and Daiwa rods and reels are what I use. Nothing too expensive, freshwater isn't an extremely abusive enviroment. As long as the drag is smooth and you can cast/work the baits and lures you intend to use with it, your set. Spool up with 8 or 10 lb. mono. No need to use 4 lb. test on anything except an ultralight. Good luck.
