Hosted Hollywood Mike (fishpro28), Joe (torchee), Russ (Russh) and John (semperfly) on the NetKeeper for our annual Turkey Day Open Boat. Headed South on a nearly flat & calm ocean to our first Tog drop bypassing lots of life on top along the way. First drop was no good, a short and doggies.
Moved to the next drop and on the way crossed paths with birdlife resembling a scene out of the Hitchcock's movie with Bass marked stacked 20 feet off the bottom and fish rolling on top. Stopped the boat and the guys threw an assortment of deadly dicks, small AVA's (naked, green & black tubes) and Sluggos at the Stripers and proceeded to boat a six man limit of Stripers within 30 minutes. There were minimal bluefish mixed in and all but one went back. The bass were so aggressive we had a few hit our dead sticks while Dom and I were netting bass. After getting our fill of bass, went back to togging. Had no prevailing current or wind where we were which made staying anchored on the piece difficult. It gave up 5 keepers including John's 10lb (24 1/2") tog and Mike's 5&6lb fish. Constrained by time, we hauled anchor by noon and headed for home. Today was a gift day as far as the weather was concerned. It was too bad that Thanksgiving was not tomorrow and that we couldn't have stayed out longer. At least we can be thankful that we were able to get out and fish today in good NJ Fishing Board company. I was glad to be a part of a few firsts on the NetKeeper today: 1) Russ had both his first keeper bass and striper limit today 2) John with his Personal Best Tog at just over 10lbs on the Berkely digital scale Please visit the below link for our remaining 2009 Season Charter & Open Boat availability http://www.njfishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17123

Thanksgiving indeed. Thank you for a morning of fantastic fishing and company aboard Netkeeper, Alan. And thanks also for everything I've learned from you at the dock and on the water these past couple of years. Along with Freddy and Carlos, you truly are one of a tiny corps of professionals who work your butt off 100% of the time and let the consistent results do the talking. With you I caught my PB fluke, tog and learned most of what I know about fishing bait for stripers, culminating the 52 lber back in June, a fish that Freddy was gracious enough to come over and photograph for me. And with the Andreas Toy crew I caught my first BFT, YFT, mako and tilefish in addition to learning a ton about offshore techniques generally. Whatever the charter captain equivalent of the Marines is, you guys are it. No surrender!
Hollywood Mike, the tog had what I think was your white legger in its belly. In its last gasp I heard it say, "It was those......glasses." Congrats to Russ on his first keeper striper (+2) and to Joey Kayaks for most of our collective jigging output. |

I gotta say I can see what all the fuss is about. And I'm not sure if my left shoulder is sore from constant reeling for nearly an hour on the stripers/blues or from the fact that I was leaning over to pick up a fish and a wave knocked me over and into a cooler. Either way it's worth it. Thanks again for the quick lesson. It's just a shame in the group shot I have the fish dark side out. Oh well, plenty more fish and group shots to be had with the fine folks I meet here at NJFishing.

Thats pretty funny John I had a great time and Alan and Dom worked their A$$ off as usual. I wish we would have had more time with the tog but the birds were to tempting to pass up![]()
