Sorry for the late post, had no computer access for the weekend.
Hosted Steve Jones and his crew from Megawatt Machine Services on the NetKeeper Saturday for what was truly one of the Fall Weather & Fishing gift days. Headed down the beach in flat seas and got as far as the rocks before we found miles of birds offshore and were the only boat on them for a little while (at least). The guys instantly boated a few bass and scratched away at some more shorts. For most of the morning we were hooked up 2-6 at a time with big blues all on jigs (A27/47 and Sting-o Fish PBJ jigs). The bass seemed to want the smaller A27 jigs most today as they were feeding on the sandeels. Called some of my network boats who joined the action up north and then they called me in for some of the southerly action off Asbury. By days end the guys boxed 11 keepers (1 shy of a six man boat limit) with two more being lost near the boat and over 20 shorts released. They also caught well over 50 blues (could have sunk the boat with a six man limit) and just kept 18 for tablefare. Tried to stop on one last group of inshore birds for that elusive 12th keeper and again we were covered in large bluefish. Occasionally we had to contend with shots of spiny dogfish too. Now for the funny story, called Steve afterwards to say we either debunked the banana myth or dodged a bullet on Saturday after I discovered a banana peel in our garbage It turns out, Carlos the high hook in striped bass keepers was the offender. Gotta give some kudos also to my mate Dom who kept the cockpit organized and the guys rigged amidst the chaos of 6 guys at a time hooked up with bluefish. I had no time either to take my usual trip highlight photos. Great bunch of guys who never stopped to take a break other than when we moved the boat.
