Default NETKEEPER - Labor Day Weekend of Sea Bass,Porgys,Blues,Stripers,Weaks,Toy Tog & Fluke

Unfortunately we cancelled our offshore BFT trip for Saturday the 5th, Thanks again NOAA. Glad to see some other sponsor boats did get em.

So Hollywood Mike (aka fishpro28), Gianni (KANT_CATCHEM) and Robert J (from the Hi-Mar) came out for Open Boat Mixed Bag Fishing Saturday. On the way out we found a Bluefish Blitz off the Highlands Bridge area where the guys played catch and release and then we moved on to Bottom Fishing. Catch and Release would continue to be the motto of the day as Toy Tog, both short & keeper Fluke up to 22” and well over 100 short Sea Bass were sent back. By days end and 5 species later the guys boxed a catch of 25 Sea Bass with a few 18-20" keepers in the mix and 8 Porgies. Unfortuneately, I left the crabs at the tackle shop so it was hard to specifically target the Blackfish.

Saturday night hosted John Toronto out for some night worming for Striped Bass. Conditions were beautiful and marked a lot of fish at our first drop but had only one fish and the rest seemed to have lockjaw. Second drop we proceeded to get a fish on almost every pass over the spot before calling it a night. No keepers but sixteen shorts were caught and released ranging from 19" to 27" with 4 going back with ALS tags in them.

On Monday I had to make a fuel run and while leaving AH marina, I got a call from one of my network bots that there were some Weaks biting close by, nothing great but they were biting in the channels. So since I had ½ a flat leftover from the other night, off I went and after two hours of solo fishing I wound up with two barely legal keepers and two shorts on new Penny Gulp Shrimp and Sand Worms. Caught all the short 12" Fluke you could possibly want in front off the Ammo pier. Had to leave this and go elsewhere as I had one short Fluke on every time I hit bottom.

Alan, nice fishing with you on saturday. I wish we could have made that bluefin run but NOAA took care of that for us. Nice job on the weekies...I hope they don't go the way the whiting did. I enjoyed catching those blues on light tackle...it has been a while since I have targeted them I always catch them as a bycatch.

Very nice report Alan. You work over the ocean bottom harder than anyone else I know. Betweeen that and your techniques (I have since used your bucktail and teaser rough bottom technique with great success down around Barnegat inlet) you catch the fish.

I too was caught off guard by NOAA last Saturday. I did go out for BFT's and caught them, but it was in a big boat (because I had thought that it would be too snotty for my rig)
