Default Broken Stripes 10/22

With the fishing mostly in a transition period, I have been doing a bit of suburban/urban kayak exploration on the Big P and Big H the past few weeks. With limited daylight after work now, its been a bit tough in new areas, but I've been lucky to put some quality fish in the boat. This 6:05 sunset thing sucks!

Started off last night throwing a 4" Storm Swimshad for our favorite seasonal migratory fish with stripes and had a relatively quick hook-up. Fish came out of nowhere, slamming my lure almost as I was about to pull it out of the water, giving me a heart attack and drenching my jeans in the process . Very hard fighting fish, got her in the net, a Striper of the Hybrid variety! Fish went about 24", a couple quick pictures and back she went. Moved on and began vertically jigging some deeper holes and had another hard hook-up that ended up popping off. Finished the night with a solid 13.5" slab Crappie on a smaller swimbait before making the dark paddle upstream back to my car.

Thanks man. Definetly a hybrid. Broken stripes and more of a humped back and vent area than a true strain.

That's awesome.

It really concerns me that we haven't had any significant rain in like three weeks in North Jersey.

If it wasn't for all the sewage plant discharges, the Passaic would be much lower than it is now.

I bet it provided a bit of a sleigh ride in yak! Must be pretty dope from the water-level vantage point.

Another angle of the fish, I could see the confusion from a vertical picture standpoint lol. The back/shoulders area is more curved on the Hybrid. Second pic is a true strain for comparison.

HAHA agreed. Went passed a funky smelling pipe yesterday in my river travels. Hoping the exposure to all this great water builds up my immune system for the winter .

The hybrids have a notably smaller mouth than the reg atlantics. They have more of a perch shape.

Pretty sure your at/around one of my honey holes. PM me, I'm local to the northern end of Big H. Been fishing it since I was a little kid couple days a week.
