Talking Late Splitrock Report!

I hit splitrock with the Yak last saturday and had a pretty good day! Drove the civic up there with the yak on the roof, I launched right at 9 am. I let the wind push me down the west bank and fished the whole way to the island. Caught 4 cookie cutter smallies, all right around 12 inches. Had a nice largie jump and throw my hook.

Coolest catch of the day was when i was sitting still, figuring out where i wanted to go next, and I had the ned rig dangling about 3 inches below the water right next to my yak in about 15-20 FOW. All of a sudden a smallie came out of nowhere and crushed it! He had a healed gash in his side (pictured below), this guy must be tough.

All in all, a good day on the water. I was one of the only people out there, it was a little chilly and rainy which kept most people away. I left right at 1 pm. A great day of fishing for sure! Tight Lines!

The north of the island is far more interesting. Look for the big girls in the shallows following the bait. Catch it right and you could have a very good day.

Nice smallmouth, hook-man. Must be relaxing floating in that lake on a yak.

looks like you had a good trip on the rock. as mentioned the north area pass the big island is a whole different can of worms. the place starts to change from mostly big rocks to more defined weed lines and muddy bottom content. the fish relate to the change in cover there.. one side is small rocks and gravel and the other is steep ridges with weed lines in some spots. great for smallmouth and perch.glad to see you were able to get a few fish
