Somerville SMB 5/8/18:
Finally got one ! Jumped as soon as I hooked 'em, only 15"er.
Tried Bridgewater and South Bound Brook also, found no love. As usual not another angler in sight. What are these huge cream colored bugs coming off the water, I see them a lot up in N.Y.

Re: Somerville SMB 5/8/18:
I assume you are wading so the bottom is suitable. I can’t imagine it will stay this way.

Mud, difficult rocky bottom.

Re: Somerville SMB 5/8/18:
Mud isnt a problem, not common and when there is bad mud it's detectable before you even get in it. Sometimes I might slip my feet a bit on rocks but Ive yet to lose my footing so much that ive gone under.
IMO raritan's bottom is as easy as any other wadable river. |

Re: Somerville SMB 5/8/18:
Thx Andy. So it’s an underutilized, wadeable fishery with good sized SMB and trout. Amazing.
My mountain climbing days are over so I appreciate your reply. Might even get the fly rod out. |

Re: Somerville SMB 5/8/18:
a ski pole is helpful in the faster stretches for the 'less than surefooted', stay away from the quickmud near the bridge at the N/SB confluence.
