So how did my fellow ice fishers do this weekend? I had a slow day yesterday, managed a few pickerel and perch with several flags missed. Today on the big pond was more action with plenty of blue hills and perch iced, and one slim dart on the tipups.

Was my first time out fishing since opening day of trout last year. Had a great day with lots of bruiser pickerel. Panfish were tough to find but managed one nice perch with mentioning. Even got checked by a CO. Glad to see him out there. Ice was 4-5 inches black ice in northern NJ.

I was out on Friday for 1st time this year. Didn't realize Bait and Boat opens at 7 during the week so got a later start than usual. Very pleasant day with little wind and some fog/snow flurries and some clearing at end of day. Using the biggest shiners they had 4 flags - 1 pickerel about 23 inch and one fat pike about 33. I opted to keep 5 tip ups in the water and did not jig - ice was about 5.5 inches. I wonder what it is like after the storm and deep freeze. Hope to be out somewhere next weekend.

Saturday was SLOOOOOWWWW. Fished from sunrise to sunset. 3 LMB (1 chunker) and 2 Pickerel to 24" on tipups. Jigged up 35 8-10" crappie. -3 this morning in LH. hopefully the NW wind didn't do too much damage to the ice.

I keep count in my head. It helps pass the time. Plus it drives Chrisper nuts when you are catching 5 or more to his 1!

that bass is nice. i also count the fish it is not to hard to do. i was out at the state park on sat and got 3 slime darts and 12 perch. there was a bunch of people out there as well. sunnies slime darts and perch were the most caught that i saw. 5" of ice average around the area i was fishing. no tip ups just jigging for me that day. sounds like you did well with the crappies.
