Default spinner line ?

Loaded line on a spin reel according to directions read & seen---line coming off spool going on reel in the same direction; i.e. line off counter clock-wise goes on counter-wise. it still went on with twists. Question: What would you advise--pay out line with bail closed & lite drag or open bail with rag or glove to control line exiting reel, then closing bail as boat steams? Light drag-wouldn't that screw up the drag washers? We're talking about 450' 30# mono---braid backing is twisted but I'm not so concerned with those twists or am I wrong with that thought? About 450' 30# braid also...and this is for tuna...hehehe...

Get yourself one of these. The spool spins with the reel and eliminates line twist.

Best ways to eliminate line twist with a spinner while spooling is to use what Kurtis suggested or have it spooled in a shop..

If you develop line twist as you fishing, while the boat is underway at slow speed, let the line out with nothing on it and let the momentum of the boat work the line and the twist out of the end of the line and reel back in...

Number one culprit of getting line twist is reeling against the drag... If you aren't gaining line when reeling, stop reeling.

Number 2 culprit is fishing with a bait that spins while in the current or reeling it in... Here's where a high quality barrel swivel above your spinning bait comes in handy.

Thanks guys, guess I spooled with the line spool 90* out. I know about reeling against drag---always use a ball bearing swivel---PB will cruise @ 20kts so is a glove/rag OK to control line leaving reel or control it with light drag? I'm tending toward the glove/rag method...and yes, clear the last buoy & check for cross-traffic before starting this...and use a rod holder-so much easier...

You put line on incorrectly , the best method is to have spool facing reel in upright position . Make sure line peelsoff same sequence as your spinner rotates as noted in diagram .
If u dump line from moving boat to straighten then be aware of pressure the line can develop , this is predicated on boat speed and yards of line dumped .
Sometimes it's more then realize especially if like U posted 20 knt boat, can be an issue recovering line if several hundred yards are dumped . Mono is more of an issue than braid since it adds stretch to equation !

Yea Capt. Lou---I saw that. With a conventional reel, i fly an 8' shark kite to stretch the new line, that works well & smaller kite on the lighter line but a spinner is a different animal with twisted line...
