You will need the certificate they gave with the #.
Then you are going to have to title it that I believe is another $50.00 itself

NJ's newly purchased boat registration fee is the sale tax on what you paid for it. That is one thing. All boats 12 feet or longer must be registered ( does not matter if powered or not at that size and up).

You will need the title too. You have a title?

If no title you're going to have alot of hoops to jump through to prove you legally purchased a legally owned boat (aka prove it's not stolen).

Have your friend write you a "bill of sale" saying he sold you the boat for a buck. No title needed, unless he had one, then you'd need it. Be sure to include all the necessary info in the letter. Year, make, model #, vin#. For mine, the model# + serial# made up the "vin#". Then get it notorized and u should be good to go.

For example: I, blah blah, sold my 1996 Sears 12ft aluminium johnboat, model # blah blah, serial # blah blah, to john d for the price of $1. Signed, blah blah. And it must be an official ink signature, no copies. Notorized by blah blah on this date, blah blah....

Good luck, I almost gave up after 5 trips but be persistent and it'll get done. And its worth it!!
