Default Cod Reel

What's a good reel that they still actually make for mid-range cod wrecks. Not looking to spend a lot. I have a Squall and a cheap star drag reel. Want to stay with the star drag and lever to free spool.

I was told Penn 320GTI but can't find one. Was told a Finn Nor, can't find one.

The new Shimano Torium 16HG is hard to beat for under $200. It lists for a little over $200, but most shops are doing XMAS deals right now so you shouldn't have a problem finding for a good price.

Torium. The new ones are sweet. Much more compact, butter smooth....

There's only one thing stopping me from buying that Torium like right now. I've had several Shimano's over the years, they stop making the parts after like 5 or 6 years. It's a money game with them, the rods that I've had were high priced junk. I read the specks on the reel and it's got 25 lbs of drag. I think that's what I needed yesterday.

Does anyone have any experience with the Okuma star drag reels?

Go with the Torium and don't look back, I would personally avoid the Okuma. But that's me. The new Toriums just came out so they will be in production for a long time to come. I know a few buddies with them and they have been trouble free so far (knock on wood, lol).
