Default Sparta NJ river/stream trout

Moving to Sparta in week and half. Started getting into fishing last year or so but have mostly been doing saltwater fishing from the beach.
But i am excited about the fact of trying some streams and rivers for trout this fall. I don't fly fish yet and am only going to be using spinning rod for this first season. Any tips on lures, baits, techniques would greatly be appreciated. I will be around the lake saginaw area... any good starting streams or rivers close by i can start off at??
Thanks in advance and looking forward to hooking into my first trout this fall (hopefully lol)

You could go to the Andover Hunt and Fish Sports Shop and rent a rowboat or kayak on Lake Aeroflex. They keep the boats right on the lake. You can fly fish or spin right from the boat. It is not too far from Sparta.

Tons of nearby rivers for trout

Download the PocketRanger app for nj. The mapping interface shows you the stocking points.

Search for it in your App Store.

Also for places to fish list

No problem with spinning tackle. I use a light setup, typically 4 lb mono although 6 lb isnt too much either.

You should focus on the state stocked rivers, although up north you also have options of wild trout streams.

Personally prefer jigs for trout, be it with marabou or small plastics like curly tail grubs, but also smaller rapalas are a favorite of mine. Basically if it's marketed for crappie fishing it's also good with stocked trout.

Fish will initially be found around stocking points but as the season moves on and after high water events, trout can be found all over.

You got the Rockaway river that they stock in the spring and fall, power bait and small rapalas should do the trick.

Sparta is central to the Paulinskill off Rt 15 in Lafayette, the Rockaway in Berkshire Valley (also off Rt 15). Other sections of those streams aren't prohibitively far either. Nor are the Pequest or Walkill. Check the NJDFW website.

Garden worms, meal worms, small spinners will all work well for fall stockers.
