Lightbulb Red:

Red has long been one of the most popular colors for all types of lures. Yet red lures change color as they get deeper; below 20 feet a red lure actually appears black. For many trout and salmon species, it's better to use red colored lures in shallower water.

Time of year, water temperature, water color, water level, type of habitat, fishing pressure, current, tides, etc., are all factors that influence fishing success. Most successful anglers take these variables into account when they are on the water.
