The $2 license for two is for Maryland style Pot that do NOT have doors. They are the ones you leave overnight with and identifier for you license from the state.

The ones that open are traps. You need no license and there is no limit to them. Obviously crabs can come and leave. In a pot they are stuck inside until the door is opened usually at the top by you.

Topless traps can be stacked on each other to save room in the boat. SO good there.

While the POTS are large usually a cube 3'x3'x3' and do not collapse. Personal experience shows that the smaller 2' version of these pots catch less than the three foot version.
