Poll for Fluke Options 2024

Sorry everyone. This post and poll are closed... Please use this post to cast or recast you vote again https://www.njfishing.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=122433

Well lets try this again.... These are the options the state will be submitting to the ASMFC that are expected to be approved. If they are approved, the state will be looking for public comments on them.

One very important thing this year that is different from past years, these regulations will be in place for 2 years.

Please take the poll and if you'd like, feel free to comment about the option you chose, why and please, lets try and keep politics out of it.

Further, if you really want your voice to be heard don't stop here, be sure to submit your comments during the formal comment period. I'll be sure to let you know when that is and how to go about it here.

I would also strongly suggest making your voice heard in the official meeting on 3/7 when the final regulations will be decided.

Please feel free to share this post by copying this link https://www.njfishing.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=122431 and pasting it on to social sites or emailing it to other groups or organizations you belong to.

Looks like your days are off .
Last option is 111 days looking at calender
Option 2 would be 124 days

Got it thanks Dan....Last option was my mistake, I picked it up wrong. When I looked at option 2 they must have miscalculated on their spreadsheet, either the dates are wrong or the number of days are..

Both correct now, I hope :)

I selected three fish at 18 inches going to September 25.
Some of the best fluking can be experienced in mid to late September…that is the main reason for my choice. Last year‘s September fluking was absolutely incredible!
Thanks for sharing the poll and the options Gerry.

How is Option 1 viable if we must adhere to 28% reduction?

Good question Larry. Let me see if I can get an explanation.

Heart, great point. In 2021, NJ had 3 @ 18", season 5/22 - 9/19 or 121 days. How do any of these options result in a 28% reduction, especially Option 3 with the same daily bag and minimum size limit but having 24 more days in the season than 2021, or help the stock if commercial fishing practices aren't addressed and the spawn of this stock protected which these a$&#@?!s refuse to address?

No matter what option is picked, another will be chosen, commercial will continue slamming the stock year round, harvesting fish recs are releasing while killing younger age classes en masse. They haven't learned harvesting all breeders of older age classes is not how you sustain or grow a fishery and is not how you manage recruitment.

So choose what you want, no one in the rec sector will be unified, the final regs as always will piss most off and not address problems the fishery itself is having. The commercial sector will continue getting treated with kid gloves being given preferential treatment every year to support catch values. Same story, different chapter every year.

Option #1 is listed as a reference point so that people understand the starting point from which the 28% reduction must come from. Status quo is not a viable option.
