This video was done by John Skinner Fishing Videos and is very informative. Interesting to note a few things:
- Why you don't want to use clams when Blackfishing
- Why you want to wait for the right bite and not set you hook on little pecks.
- How a slight move on to a diffrent rock or piece in the same general area can make all the difference in the world.

Enjoy

Cool video. I've seen plenty of blackfish scuba diving in deeper water, and they are always very skidish. These fish didn't seem to be that way in the shallow stuff. This video is why I always carry my spearpole when scuba diving! Never tried to dive the shallow stuff because I figured the viz was always crappy. Maybe I should give it a shot!

I've always been a legs off shell off guy thinking they'd peck off the legs and the shell first then take it in so why not remove them so the fish takes the bait first shot. This video supports that theory, however, I've yet to get a 10 plus pounder. I''ve seen some sharpies use crabs whole but unlike me, these guys have the patience to wait for the right bite. If feel a bite and can't resist swinging.

Seems to me this also might be why White Leggers might work better then greens. Their shells are much softer which allows the fish to take it in easier??

Any other opinions out there from you sharpies??

Man I can't wait to get after these fish this season!!

the fish dictate what they want... some days green belly crabs , some days the harder red bottom green crabs . the other day i tried both legs on n off. off worked better. I use the whole large crab in a 2 hook system in december or january when im on wrecks or 17. and i cant forget Labs white leggers ....taug candy later in the season. Nov 16 cant come fast enough in my book

I hear you Pete... Seems every day is different... Darn fish

I guess that is what is so challenging yet rewarding about this great sport of ours, especially with these finiky Blackfish, those BASTAGES ;)

I wish I was Jmurr sometimes... This way those bergals would be prizes not pests.

Regardless of the bait offered, this video explains why we lose so much lead in quest of that big keeper or slob we all know is down there waiting. Drop your rig, feel the bump, bump, bump on the way to the bottom and you know you are in trouble if you get that ONE bite. Wondering if your rig will see the light of day after all the bumps can require patience, a possible hookup and more patience, or a drifting sea that lands it in the graveyard.

I kept expecting to see lead, hooks, fishing line in the vid, I didn't see it, so a virgin rock pile with lots of blackfish may be out there????

It also showed me exactly what I was taught about paying attention to the silence in the line...... that's when ol big boy has chased the bait stealers away and is preparing to pounce on the bait. PATIENCE.
