Should have never left the dock today! Howling west wind with Incoming tide (naturally) made for another day of horrible conditions. Didn't have a fish till the tide changed and even at that, the bite didn't last long. 8 shorts, no keepers. We did read a lot more life today, (bait and fish), all along the channel on the way out and saw more gannet action in the AM. Best I could find on the water temp was 46 degrees..I don't think anything short of devine intervention would have help today!! capt.ron

There have been a few boats fishing near Perth Amboy, that's also where I was.  Everyone I could see was picking fish, more then me, most with worms.

Good luck

Trout Season Opens Saturday at 8am

Broken Bobber
onoletzgo@aol.com

Trout season opens this Saturday, April 7, at 8am. All trout waters have been stocked with more than 181,000 fish from the Pequest Hatchery. Stocking will continue until May 25, with many waters receiving fish weekly. More than 570,000 brook, brown, and rainbow trout will be stocked by season's end - and that doesn't include the large trout leftover from the fall stocking which are still out there. These fish measured 14 - 16 inches over five months ago!

Biologist Pat Hamilton has provided a Trout Fishing Outlook for 2007, highlighting some of the state's hot spots, as well as changes for this year. Visit www.njfishandwildlife.com/arttrtout07.htm for all the details.

For general information on the spring season, including links to the weekly stocking schedules trout allocations for each water with the days stocked, visit www.njfishandwildlife.com/trtinfo_spr07.htm .

Anglers are reminded that a trout stamp is required in addition to a 2007 fishing license. Licenses are available at agents (www.njfishandwildlife.com/agentlst.htm ) and online at www.wildlifelicense.com/nj/ - licenses purchased online are printed on your home computer system. License information is found at www.njfishandwildlife.com/fishneed.htm .

Get outside this weekend and enjoy some of the best trout fishing found anywhere! And with a number of schools closed next week, families will have even have more opportunities to go fishing !

NY DEC and Fluke regulations

Broken Bobber
onoletzgo@aol.com

just got this from Dennis Kanyuk of the UNITED BOATMAN NEW YORK...

Though most of us here can not vote or have any say, whatever the outcome is will effect those of us who fish the Raritan Bay and at times fish Staten Island waters and the Ambrose channel.....

It has come to my attention that the D E C is SERIOUSLY looking at options of 18, 18 1/2 and 19 inches. If any of the smaller size limit option are done this will greatly reduce the season to as short as early June to mid August. The D E C is saying that the input they are receiving is about 50 - 50 on this subject. Some people want the smaller size limit with the shorter season while others want the bigger size limit with the full season. As with all the other regulations each area of the island needs sometime different. I hope we can all be on the same page on this by agreeing to support the 191/2 inch and full season option so the whole island can at least fish when they need too. We need as many e-mails to Gordon Colvin as possible. Simple tell him that you support the 191/2 size limit with the full season as this is the only option which will let the most boats to survive. We should also let him know that it is already April 8 and we are the only state that doesn't know when our opening day. This is a total disgrace and a slap in the face to industry. Business needs to know more then a week ahead of time when the season will open. I hope we will all support each other on this matter or we will all be out of business in a few years.

Gordon's email is gccolvin@gw.dec.ny.us

AOL Users Beware - aspup.exe Virus

Gerry Zagorski
njfishing@aol.com

A few days back I start getting warning messages on my computer that my hard drive was 98% full......I do a search for all files over 1MB and nothing is really showing up... I do and advanced search and click on show hidden files. Once I get the results I sort them by size and there are 4 to 5 files with the file names of aspup.exe that amount to over 60 Gigs. It's some sort of file that loads to AOL and messes with your Spyware and takes over you hard drive.....

If you want to find out if your have it on your computer go to Start, Search, click on files and folders then advanced search and choose hidden files and files over 1MB. When you get the results back click on size which will ranks the files by size and see if you have some large files named aspup.exe

If you do, go to control panel, add remove programs, and click on anything you see associcated with AOL and uninstall it. Once you do that run the search again and the files should be gone. Now empty your recycle bin, resart your computer. Once your back up geton explorer and go to aol.com and go to the bottom of the site and click on downlaod AOL.

Hey guys, today's trip was canned due to the wind, gonna push back the unofficial opener a few days.

I do have openings next weekend, Saturday 4/14 (2 spots) and Sunday (2 spots) as of now for some flounder poundin' in the Squan.  Trip will run 6-8 hours, fare is $65 which includes bait, tackle, chum.  We consistently catch flounder in our river until the end of the month, and there will be more open trips available.  If interested, shoot me an email or give me a call.

Put a Honda 150 in place of an Ocean Pro 150 two years ago. It has been great performer at 1/3 less fuel and NO oil.  Have 200 hours on it and looking forward to this season.  I have it serviced every 100 hours which costs $250 and have never had to add oil.  It starts right up, idles quietly, in fact sometimes you forget it is running and it does not smoke or create exhaust smell when you are trolling or running at full speed.  Only negative it is does not have the quick plane speed but top speed is the same. Am happy I made the purchase.

What a catch! Giant 90-year-old fish reeled in off Alaska

Reel Big Fish
rslodowski@aol.com

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- A commercial fishing boat hauled in what may have been one of the oldest creatures in Alaska -- a giant rockfish estimated to be about a century old.

The 44-inch, 60-pound female shortraker rockfish was caught last month by the catcher-processor Kodiak Enterprise as it trawled for pollock 2,100 feet below the surface, south of the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea.

The Seattle-based vessel, owned by Trident Seafoods, pulled up an estimated 75 tons of pollock and 10 bright-orange rockfish.

Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle measured, photographed and documented the fish. They removed an ear bone, the otolith, which contains growth rings similar to rings in the trunks of trees.

They estimate the rockfish was 90 to 115 years old.

That's toward the upper end of the known age limit for shortraker rockfish, said Paul Spencer of the science center. Other estimates put the fish's maximum age at 157 years, Spencer said.

The contents of the rockfish's stomach were examined and scientists took tissue samples to measure her reproductive potential. "The belly was large," Spencer said. "The ovaries were full of developing embryos."

Scientists said the specimen is not the biggest on record. A 47-inch shortraker rockfish was recorded, according to the book "Fishes of Alaska."

Re^2: 2 stroke, e-tec or 4 stroke?

Gerry Zagorski
njfishing@aol.com

The one issue I see with 4 strokes is what Bates mentioned...Time to plane....Much of that is due to the additional weight of the engine compared to a 2 stroke and the fact that all the extrq weight is in the back of the boat. Ever notice when you have a lot of weight in the back of your boat it takes you a lot longer to get up on plane? I know when I fill my trasom live well up with water my boat labors a lot more to get up on plane.

Honda 115 505 lbs
Etec 115 375 lbs

Some other things to consider....... Honda requires a lot more normal maintainence. ETEC says no maintainence for 3 years but you need to contunually feed it oil.

The one wild cards I see is that Hondas in general are very reliable. There were lots of early issues with Johnson/Envirude when they first came out with their new low emmision FICT 2 strokes. Re^2: 2 stroke, e-tec or 4 stroke?

Gerry Zagorski
njfishing@aol.com

The one issue I see with 4 strokes is what Bates mentioned...Time to plane....Much of that is due to the additional weight of the engine compared to a 2 stroke and the fact that all the extra weight is in the back of the boat. Ever notice when you have a lot of weight in the back of your boat it takes you a lot longer to get up on plane? I know when I fill the trasom live well up with water my boat labors a lot more to get up on plane.

Do they have it figured out with ETEC? Their new commercials would tell you they do but only time will tell.

If you want releiablity I think Honda gets the nod....If you are after performance then ETEC.

First striped bass outing of the year...

Chris_ JC
cmartalus@edzuck.com

I took off work today and got some sandworms and headed out to pier A in Hoboken for my first chance at spring time stripers. I got there about 9AM and it was cool and breezy and I didn't have great expectations as it is early in the year.

For the first 2 hours it looked like skunk-town but as I was debating if I should put more quarters in the meter I started getting bites. Of course then I had to sprint way back to the car to feed the meter.  Soon after I got back I started landing fish - 4 striped bass (15", 20", 21", and 26") and 1 tomcod.  The fish were a little sluggish but of course the 2 bigger ones hit on the fresh water rod to keep things interesting.

So, not a bad start to the spring especially when I was expecting to catch nothing or the really tiny stripers that I sometimes catch with worms.

I think it's $2 per tag. In other words, you pay your first $2 and get your tag. Then when you decide to use it & turn it in, you have to buy another tag for $2 and so on & so forth.

For me, it's not so much the $2 but rather the principle of the matter--we now have to pay for something that used to be free (yes, I realize you did have to buy 2 $0.39 stamps in years past).

8-2 doesn't sound like much fishing, but on the one trip I did with you guys we moved as soon as fished stopped coming over the rail, and wasted no time if there was no life on a wreck. probably fished as many or more pieces than longer day trips.
definately recommend it.

Another cold nasty day, with a much better bite than yesterday on the Stripers. Same conditions, hard West against the incoming, didn't read much life, but the suckers bit anyway. Picked at the shorts and some of what used to be slot fish for a few hours before catching a keeper.Water temp dropped 2 degrees to 44.5 didn't matter where we went, in shallow 8ft. or off in 15ft. of water. Made 2 drops and caught fish on both, right to the end of the day.....Not sailing Sunday. Daily after that, 7:30till 2:30pm. Thanks! Capt.Ron

Urine test

Broken Bobber
onoletzgo@aol.com

Like a lot of folks in this state I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them??

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sitting on their back side.

Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people  had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?????

GAMBLER TAUG REPORT TODAY

Capt Bob Bogan The Gambler
captbogan@aol.com

We couldn't sail for blacks yesterday, so we fished for them today. Just about 10 guys on board --but I really wanted to see....

I had barely anchored the boat on my first wreck this morning when I heard someone holler "2 on!" Young Jacob Fosse landed the first taug of our season witha nice 6 lber.

We had a decent 2 hour pick on that wreck, only a couple shorts --the rest were nice 4 to 10 lbers.

Next, we went shallower, to one of my favorite spring hangs, but we were too early for that spot.

The third wreck was furthest off, a little deeper. It was a small wreck but we had plenty of bites and some more nice blackfish.

Looks windy for tomorrow, but not much more than today. If you get the chance, come on down. It's a good, 10 hr trip.

Young Jacob with 2 of his black fish

Out on a Limb Missing Crew Member this Morning ????

Broken Bobber
onoletzgo@aol.com

Someone Wasn't feeling well ???? To much Rice and Beans maybe ????

Why does diarrhea develop?

With diarrhea, stools usually are looser whether or not the frequency of bowel movements is increased. This looseness of stool--which can vary all the way from slightly soft to watery--is caused by increased water in the stool. During normal digestion, food is kept liquid by the secretion of large amounts of water by the stomach, upper small intestine, pancreas, and gallbladder. Food that is not digested reaches the lower small intestine and colon in liquid form. The lower small intestine and particularly the colon absorb the water, turning the undigested food into a more-or-less solid stool with form. Increased amounts of water in stool can occur if the stomach and/or small intestine secretes too much fluid, the distal small intestine and colon do not absorb enough water, or the undigested, liquid food passes too quickly through the small intestine and colon for them to remove enough water. Of course, more than one of these abnormal processes may occur at the same time.

For example, some viruses, bacteria and parasites cause increased secretion of fluid, either by invading and inflaming the lining of the small intestine (inflammation stimulates the lining to secrete fluid) or by producing toxins (chemicals) that also stimulate the lining to secrete fluid but without causing inflammation. Inflammation of the small intestine and/or colon from bacteria or from ileitis/colitis can increase the rapidity with which food passes through the intestines, reducing the time that is available for absorbing water. Conditions of the colon such as collagenous colitis can block the ability of the colon to absorb water.

Diarrhea generally is divided into two types, acute and chronic. Acute diarrhea lasts a few days or up to a week. Chronic diarrhea can be defined in several ways but almost always lasts more than three weeks. It is important to distinguish between acute and chronic diarrhea because they usually have different causes, require different diagnostic tests, and require different treatment.

Uh it's two dollars for the privelege to kill another bass, with the convinience of not having to wait for the mail based delays or a 1 ticket lottery. The DF&G is underbudgeted enough, shelling out 2 measly dollars to fund the program instead of taking money away from things like enforcement seems pretty reasonable. Plus online logs greatly help the state log in the data which helps for better science.

For a state that screws up as much as Jersey does, this is one of the better features and is aimed at helping the anglers and streamlining the process, but I guess people will complain about anything....lol

You should've headed further south to join the riff raff with their spinning gear.  Good incoming tide this afternoon for back bay beaches.  Clams Always!

Striper Charters

Angela Rose Charters
sportfishingnj@aol.com

Angela Rose Charters is booking for striper charters on the Angela Rose II. We offer half and full day runs. All tackle, rods, reels, bait, and ice is included in the rates.

Angela Rose II is a 34' King Cat Catamaran that is powered by 770 horses or raw power. Built strictly for big game fishing, her offshore capabilities are ridicules.  When I bought her home from Annapolis, Maryland, we encountered tight 6 foot head seas inside the Delaware River. I trimmed the bow up and we cruised at 25 mph, cutting thru the slop like a hot knife thru butter. On calm days, she tops out at just over 40 mph. Starting up in the bow, she has dual anchors backed by a single windlass anchor retriever. A walk around cabin lets you enjoy to open deck on the bow to bath in the sun. At the anchor, the bow stands a little over 5 feet at the waterline and is secured by a stainless steel safety rail that streches aft to amidships In the stern, she sports an unmatched 172 square foot cockpit with a fresh and salt water washdown, a giant fish box, and a 40 gallon livewell and coming pads. A generator will light up the night for night bluefishing or parties. Forward and below houses the comforts of home with a microwave, fridge, a sink, oven range, and ample storage area. There are also 2 twin berthing area with storage, power outlets and lights. The full size head is equipped with a shower and a fresh water sink. A table to eat sit front and center. 8 adult life preservers and 6 children's life preservers are also located in a storage compartment below. Back on deck, you will find an AM/FM/CD radio with a speaker system, and mood lights that are hidden underneath the gunwales.  Inside the wheelhouse, Furuno Electronics litter the helm. They include a 36 mile radar, a GPS chart plotter with tracking controls, color depth / fish finder, an auto pilot, and an underwater camera. There is a back to back seating to port and bench for 3 to starboard. The flybride has seating for 3 and is equipped with a VHF radio and the Furuno chartplotter.

$41,500 is that right? Sounds a little on the low end..

Ok...I'll post it...

You guys are a bunch of dopes.

Welfare is 1/10 of 1% of our national spending.  60 % of that money is paid to seniors.  While I don't advocate people milking the system for money, I do know we have bigger problems than welfare.  And enough of the immigration talk.  If it upsets you so much, stop fishing and start working on the immigration and welfare problem in your spare time.  You guys insult and exclude many people in our country I call my friends.

Now...shut up and fish or spend your time responding with your redneck rhetoric...

;)

I cannot agree with your more! Great Post! Just to add my two cents how about the same people who have to pass the urine test serve jury duty for a week or two prior to collecting a welfare check?

Got the "A  Salt  Weapon" towed, launched and in the slip last weekend.  Want to give special thanks to the hard core, road dirt on face, biker that told me one of my straps was flapping around and I should fix it before it nicks the boat all up!  Thanks  Shamrock Eddie!
